Day 139

More chess means more attention, and they love it.
We played chess with the girls again today after school. They are both really keen. I think some of it is due to the complete attention they get from my partner when playing it. I am not saying he doesn't normally have anything to do with them. But he will often say he will look after youngest for me, for example, and then proceed to play his guitar. I am not sure whether he expects her to happily play one of her instruments at the same time, without any encoragement or praise. Or whether he expects her to just sit and admire his talent. Even though she idolises him, the second option is highly unlikely!
He also keeps cheating when they play chess. Especially if they are playing against me. He makes sure they think about their next move more by prompting them with noises and suggestions. He would never get away with it in a competition, they would throw him out! He has even suggested we have a big tournament at the weekend with prizes for the winner. That means I will need to scour the shops for something suitable. Although knowing my girls a trophy doesn't really matter, a bar of chocolate would suffice.
